Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve noticed that records are “a thing” again. It is a thing that three generations of a family can bond over. You can buy them online OR you can visit a local dispensary. As a person in active addiction, folks ask me personally and frequently “which is your favourite”? With no reluctance, I always tell them that it is Lunchbox Records.

As a (semi-retired) hip-hop DJ with a teenager, whose collection is (quickly) surpassing mine, we darken the doors of all of the (regional) record stores. Lunchbox is the busiest, the biggest, and the one with more employees than the rest. And there’s a reason for that. No shade to other stores as we actively attempt to keep the lights on in ALL of them, but our go-to is Lunchbox.

Owner Scott Wishart (lead of the band Late Bloomer and also a session artist who does work on a lot of artist’s albums) is truly taken aback at the fact that Lunchbox is celebrating their TWENTIETH year of being opened. I’m not surprised. They are the largest, cleanest, and longest running (without breaks) local record store. They also have the most staff. It doesn’t go unnoticed (to My City Magazine) that most of their employees work at local concert halls, were music journalists, or are in bands themselves. They are super knowledgeable. And approachable. If you need help finding anything, don’t be intimated. Just go up to the register and ask for it. If they don’t have it, they might could just order it for you. Happy crate digging.
